Online workshop on Research methodology and the Internet of things as a methodological concept
A two-day online workshop on Research methodology - The Internet of things as a Methodological Concept, was organised by the Computer Science department at St. Xavier's College, Jaipur. The event held on 29th-30th September, 2020, addressed a lack of consensus on the nature of computing research methods amid a growing number of programs that are exploring newer models and content for technology. To throw more light on The Internet of Things and underscore the essence of research in computers, two eminent resource persons Dr. Jagdish Prasad Dr. Dinesh Goyal and Dr. Anil Siroliya were invited to the workshop.
Dr Prasad who is the Director, of Statistics and Business Analytics with the Amity School of Applied Science, Jaipur, shared his valuable insight on the “Overview of Research Methodology in the area of Computer Science”. Dr. Goyal, a Professor in Computer science and Engineering at the Poornima Institute of Engineering and Technology, Jaipur, delivered his thoughts on the topic of “Building of IoT and it’s Research Directions”. The following session was convened by Dr. Goyal who gave a virtual tour on “Building of IoT and its research directions”. He explained how close we are to incorporating IoT in our daily lives by pointing to examples strewn all around us. He shared the major benefits of IoT on the body, home, and city. He focused on the challenges v/s benefits, Solution Architecture, Implementation strategies, and famous platforms during his discourse. He brought the session to a fruitful end by mentioning the different factors that one has to keep in mind while researching on ‘Internet of Things’. In his session, Dr. Prasad shared personal life experiences as examples to make students have a better understanding of research methodology in the present era. He dwelled on the concept of ‘6Ws’ while explaining how we do research in daily life. “All inventions are research, but all research are not inventions,” he said. He made the students and participating faculties get a grasp on different research methods and research methodology. He concluded the session with his detailing of the 4 steps to good research – Systematic, Logical, Empirical and Replicable.
