A 45 days Certificate Program on “Mega Python Training Program-From Beginner to Professional: Build 5 Real World Applications” has been conducted by the Computer Science Department of St. Xavier’s College, Jaipur in joint collaboration with the “Road Ahead Technologies India Ltd.”, a reputed Jaipur based, Corporate Training Provider organization. The program has been offered for the UG students of the Department.

Mr Abhishek Jain, an IT Engineer in Java, Android, Python, Machine Learning, Data Science & Big Data Technologies with an experience of 15 years in the IT Industry

TARGET AUDIENCE: UG Students

LEARNING OUTCOME:

The Program began on 25 January 2021, with the formal welcome of the Trainer, Mr. Abhishek Jain. The Program Coordinator, Trainer of the Program, introduced the participants about the current and future scope of the IT Industry in relevance with the Python Programming language and its career benefits. He also explained that, how the program is deeply connected with the current technical world and working in tune with other key technologies like machine learning and big data.

Alumni associations tide over the need from both academicians and professionals to build a connectivity between college life and career life so that fresh graduates are made proactive to face the current challenges of the present competitive world of technology.  United we rise to help each other to achieve the goal. This special session took place on 15th December 2020 through an illuminating interactive session which was organized by the Department of Computer Science.

The first alumni speaker Mr. Sparsh Gambir spoke about the strategizing and scaling up UI design and UX research.

The second alumni speaker Mr. Shubham Bagadi spoke on the current trends that are opening in the field of IT and what exactly the companies require while recruiting in this sector. 

The third alumni speaker Mr. Neeraj Kheria shared experiences laced with recollection on how St. Xavier's College groomed them in academics and also inculcated values that helped them to fasten their successful careers. He also insisted the importance of getting certification apart from their graduation. 

The speakers shared their experiences in looking for a job, reasons for changing one job from another, their opinions on why computer graduates had an advantage over other fresh graduates.

The students and faculties of the Department of Computer Science witnessed the hidden corporate culture and environment during a webinar organized by the Computer Science Department on 9th October 2020.

Mr. Vipin Jain explained the functioning of the IT corporates and about the types of projects and their key clientele, and software used by his organization. In adding essence to the talk the importance of Quality assurance was stressed for any type of project and role of different personals at different stages of development. He emphasized that the IT personnel must have a good interpersonal relations and soft skill to grab the ladder of success.

Dr. Anubha Jain spoke about “Cloud Collaboration Tools”, She shared a vast information about the Cloud Computing tact and technological aspects. She elaborated the significance of few of the tools which are utilized in Cloud Collaboration using the google drive. In order to motivate and make the session lively she gave the students a boost up session on cloud through an online quiz game.

“Basics Computers” is a bridge course which was designed for the non-IT students from different streams like arts/science/commerce and were not having Informatics Practice (IP) as a subject in school education. This bridging course was considered as a department-preparation course with an academic curriculum/syllabus that was designed to mature these students for the Under Graduates level studies by providing instructions and significant practices in a knowledgeable computer skill. This course will provide a basic knowledge of Computer, Operating System, Number system, software and hardware to the students.

TARGET AUDIENCE: Non-IT Students in BCA

LEARNING OUTCOME:

From this course the students learnt how to computers operate itself and how they can be used to make work more efficient. For the students it became easy to recognize the basic components of computers and terminology such as data, information and file management, computer networks, Internet, content search, and email management. The outcome of the courses was to understand and study the history of computer programming, study about the internet operations and basic protocols, study web designing basics, understand the basic working process of an operating system and examine the structure of various number systems and its application in digital design and analyze a web page and identify its elements and attributes.

The Department of Computer Science has organized a Guest Lecture on 30 January 2021 at 11:00 am for the students of Bachelor of Computer Application. The Lecture titled - Specific and Focused Career Study with a Professional Certificate has been aimed to bridge the Academia - industry gap. First session titled - " Why Python is the future of technologies: Use cases of Python in the real world" was taken by Mr Abhishek Jain, an IT Engineer in Java, Android, Python, Machine Learning, Data Science & Big Data Technologies with an experience of 15 years in the IT Industry. He highlighted the importance of Python in all complex program development and the demand of Python Professionals in industries. Second session of the Lecture was taken by Mr Ritesh Jain, Internationally certified professional in oracle database & Amazon web services with an experience of 15 years in IT Industry. He focused on the Demand of AWS solutions Architect and the need of validating the Cloud Knowledge and Skills in the current IT scenario.

Privacy is Everyone’s responsibility

 

On the occasion of Data Privacy Day, the Department of Computer Science organised a Panel Discussion and a hands on experience session virtually on 28th January 2021 to create a conducive environment which safeguards personal data of one and all. The theme of the event was focussed on - ‘Personal Data protection Bill, 2019- A Vision for future Security’, which pans out the realm of privacy and several new facets that get unearthed which play a vital role in deciding the future of this domain. While Privacy Principles have been around for some time now, terms like Privacy Virtues, Privacy Ethics, Privacy Values are also making their presence felt.

Our principal, Rev Dr A Rex Angelo, initiated the panel discussion and highlighted the significant issues related to Data Privacy and the importance of keeping our data secure.  The eminent speakers in the panel included Mr Aaron Kamth, Leader - International Commercial Law and Technology Law Practice of Nishith Desai and Mr. Chandan Singh Ghodela, Sr. Cyber Security Analyst at Cyberops Infosec LLP.

Mr. Aaron brought out the flaws how users accept privacy policy without reading the terms and conditions. He also said that the Russia uses in-house apps to ensure security of data within the country, and so also India in productions for telecom and banking sectors to keep data safe and writhing the country. The valuable insights and experiences shared by the panellists unravelled  their dilemmas related to data privacy. There were various other topics that were discussed on Cia trade, Cryptography, privacy=data breaching, Provision of information technology act-220 which was disabled for the last two months. Mr chandan singh also emphasised that data privacy is a Myth. At the end the hands on session carried out by Mr. Chandan was exclusive and knowledgeable who taught the traits on hacking and how to secure date through our privacy setting in google and Facebook accounts. way, giving us a better way to articulate situations and lead a better living

The show ended up with around where the speakers wisely gave answers to all the questions thrown them.

Recycling and Upcycling of E-Scrap

To mark the International E-Waste Day at St. Xavier’s College, Jaipur, a webinar was organised by the Department of Computer Science in collaboration with Eco Friendly Club and Swachhta Action Plan (Waste Management) on 14th October to stress the urge and need for adopting environment friendly e-waste recycling practices in our college and society. In order to conceptualise the E-Waste practise the organising committee arranged a competition to bring the new innovative ideas of youth through their presentation or a short video to help us make recycling and reducing e-waste easier and more efficiently.

Our Key note speaker Ms. Reena Singh, Advocate of Supreme Court of India mentioned the laws to manage e-waste that have been in place by the Government. The fact of bring the law has strengthened the rule of Extended Producer Responsibility(EPR) which ensures that the waste reaches authorised recyclers. Despite these rules she expressed that these E-wastes are growing at a compound rate on the cost of Health and Environment. She also stated that the immense potential is there in augmenting e-waste recycling in the country. In the question and answer  every point was discussed and she inspired our students to stand in the gap and be an instrument for making our environment safe to live

To bring out the impact of E-waste in our present living environment was portrayed through a presentation competition from students from different departments, the students clearly paced their views and ideas that could be implemented for recycling and upcycling of E-Scrap. This was later judged by our speaker Ms. Reena N Singh, out the 7 finalist three where selected. The first position was backed by Ridhi Agarwal (BBA-II), the second position by Jovina Jacinta Castelino(BCA-II), and  third position by Deepali Khatri (BBA-II).

The event was concluded by a gratitude note to the almighty who made the event successful and to our management for giving us a platform to execute this virtually and to the speaker for giving her valuable inputs to the all the participant’s of both faculty and students of various departments.

Department of Computer Science and Tech-X IT club in collaboration with FEEPC of St Xavier's College, Jaipur organised a National Webinar on Covid '19 - Creative Strategies: Organic Farming at Home on 25 November 2020. In this webinar, more than 150 participants registered from the St Xavier’s College as well as the students from different institutions of the state.  The webinar was graced by the presence of Mr. Prateek Tiwari, as the resource Person. He is the Founder and CEO of The Living Green Organics, Jaipur and the Global Coordinator of YARD (Young Ambassadors for Rural Development). He has earned numerous laurels and achievements in the field of organic farming.

This webinar has been organized with the objective of raising awareness and adding the freshness of nature in the daily the lifestyle of students and sensitizing them for their responsibilities towards nature, and making bonds with the plants and their liveliness for their own well-being.

The program began with the welcome address of the student coordinator Jovina Jacinta Castelino at 9:00 am. Rev Dr A Rex Angelo, Principal of the college addressed the participants and welcomed the resource person. Father told about the importance of organic farming and the role of a healthy diet in one’s life. The resource person Mr. Prateek introduced the concept of organic farming and its importance in today’s pandemic situation. He made the participants aware of the health benefits of organic food and told about various creative strategies related to organic farming. He explained the different ways of managing and converting unused urban spaces into organic food-producing spaces. He demonstrated the innovative products and methods which can be easily adapted to fulfill the passion of doing organic farming on the rooftops. He further explained how organic farming can be done with the least investment. He shared the real-life view of his own organic farms with the participants. After having a wonderful virtual tour of the organic farms and an insightful discussion, a question and answer session took place where students clarified their queries, got more ideas and information pertaining to this area, and had a better understanding of organic farming with a way towards an innovative business model. The session was very useful and informative for the participants.

DAY 1 - 26th October 2020

A short-term training program on Data Science using R Programming was organized by the Department of Computer Science from 26th-31st October 2020 in collaboration with Xavier's Research Project Cell under aegis of IQAC on virtual platform. Dr. Brijesh Awasthi, Adjunct Professor (Data Analytics and Research) Poornima University, Jaipur, Rajasthan, and Adjunct Professor (Data Analytics) Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur was the resource person. The STTP was joined by around 31 students and 5 teachers .The STTP started with basic knowledge understanding of statistical data with the help of interesting examples and the crucial role of statistical analysis in the field of research and development. He further elaborated the need for improvement on our data analytical skills using R Programming. The session was very informative and interesting, students were enthusiastic and engrossed during the sessions. He set a mark for the upcoming sessions with some of the illustrations.

DAY 2 - 27th October 2020

The session imparted confidence in working with RStudio with hands-on experience with advanced techniques to quantify the data and gain knowledge with the working of the Data Frame and retrieval of the manipulated data. The practical Question and answer session made us more compliant with R programming. Mr. Brijesh familiarizes the statistical procedures with live demonstrations and gave us a good analytical practice. The session came to an end with all the doubts cleared.

DAY 3 - 28th October 2020

The session imparted confidence in working with RStudio with hands-on experience with advanced technique to summarize historical data and gain knowledge with the working of various interfaces and combining various data sets. The practical question and answer sessions were very effective and made us more congenial with R programming, and the students were becoming more engrossed during the session. His sessions were lively which made us at ease while learning. He ensured active participation by everybody by keeping checking on each progress.

DAY 4 - 29th October 2020

On the fourth day of the session we were introduced to a brand-new concept of two-tail testing with relatable examples for better understanding. Further, we solved a variety of questions for full interpretation of the concept and its area of application. He followed up with each student ensuring each one and all are on the same page in learning the R programming. We had a doubt solving session accompanied by detailed notes dictation for future reference.

DAY 5 – 31st October 2020

On the final day of the training we finished with the remaining topics that were covered under the training program with the very last set of online coding sessions along with doubt solving round. We ended with a vote of thanks to Dr. Brijesh Awasthi and sharing our experience. His method of teaching is very captivating with in-depth knowledge of the subject matter, which is very much liked and appreciated by all students.

The session was very informative and interesting, students were enthusiastic and engrossed during the sessions and looking forward to more enlightening sessions in upcoming days.
