Recycling and Upcycling of E-Scrap

14th October 2020

To mark the International E-Waste Day at St. Xavier’s College, Jaipur, a webinar was organised by the Department of Computer Science in collaboration with Eco Friendly Club and Swachhta Action Plan (Waste Management) on 14th October to stress the urge and need for adopting environment friendly e-waste recycling practices in our college and society. In order to conceptualise the E-Waste practise the organising committee arranged a competition to bring the new innovative ideas of youth through their presentation or a short video to help us make recycling and reducing e-waste easier and more efficiently.

Our Key note speaker Ms. Reena Singh, Advocate of Supreme Court of India mentioned the laws to manage e-waste that have been in place by the Government. The fact of bring the law has strengthened the rule of Extended Producer Responsibility(EPR) which ensures that the waste reaches authorised recyclers. Despite these rules she expressed that these E-wastes are growing at a compound rate on the cost of Health and Environment. She also stated that the immense potential is there in augmenting e-waste recycling in the country. In the question and answer  every point was discussed and she inspired our students to stand in the gap and be an instrument for making our environment safe to live

To bring out the impact of E-waste in our present living environment was portrayed through a presentation competition from students from different departments, the students clearly paced their views and ideas that could be implemented for recycling and upcycling of E-Scrap. This was later judged by our speaker Ms. Reena N Singh, out the 7 finalist three where selected. The first position was backed by Ridhi Agarwal (BBA-II), the second position by Jovina Jacinta Castelino(BCA-II), and  third position by Deepali Khatri (BBA-II).

The event was concluded by a gratitude note to the almighty who made the event successful and to our management for giving us a platform to execute this virtually and to the speaker for giving her valuable inputs to the all the participant’s of both faculty and students of various departments.
